Scroogle Mail AG is a Swiss provider of end-to-end encrypted email, founded in Zurich in 2021 by ad-tech veterans Matthias Keller and Nadia Furrer. The company protects more than 12,000 mailboxes with zero-access encrypted storage, open-source clients and annually published independent audits, from datacentres in Zurich and Lausanne. Scroogle Mail is bootstrapped, has been profitable since 2024, and is funded entirely by subscriptions starting at £2.99 a month - it serves no ads and sells no data. 2021
Scroogle Mail AG founded in Zurich by Matthias Keller and Nadia Furrer, both leaving careers in ad-tech to build the opposite.
2022
Private beta opens with 500 mailboxes, mostly friends, family and sceptical former colleagues.
2023
Public launch, alongside our first independent security audit - published in full, findings and all.
2024
Native apps ship for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. The company becomes profitable, with no outside investment.
2025
Second datacentre comes online in Lausanne for redundancy across two Swiss sites. Scroogle Mail passes 12,000 mailboxes.
2026
Scroogle Relay launches for email-less checkout, and the encrypted calendar rolls out to all plans at no extra cost.
